Stories: A Perpetual Night Thinker. Are you one, too?

She walked inside her bedroom, shut the door, and turned off the lights; only the night lamp placed on the bedside table was lit, emitting an orb-like glow into the room.

She picked up her unfinished “Mrs. Dalloway”, paced through a couple of pages, then kept it aside and slipped inside the blanket. All the lights were out now. Asha preferred complete darkness and silence. Ten, twenty, thirty minutes passed by, and she was still awake, thinking about all the things she needed to do the next day. “I haven’t even started to work on my presentation yet; it’s just a few days away” “I’ll work on it tomorrow” “Then the day after, Gerard will be in the office, and the whole day will be gone in meetings”. “Oh, what shall I wear that day? Something that isn’t too formal, I suppose”. “I’ll think about that later. I should sleep now.”

“I asked her to soak some sprouts this evening. Did she even do it? Though I don’t like having sprouts”. “I don’t know why mom doesn’t listen to anything that I say these days, and then she keeps complaining about things and does nothing to fix them.” “Tomorrow, I’ll write a blog about the challenges of looking after parents and how stubborn they are at times, worse than kids.” “What shall I title it though?”. “Let me make a note about it right now; I’ll think of the details later” she picks up the phone to note down one of her million thoughts. “It’s 12.10 AM already. Shoot. Why do I always do this to myself? I should sleep now”, and “I have to wash my hair also tomorrow morning.” After a few more minutes of self-conversation in her mind, she finally drifts into sleep.
